History

Elkanah Smith originally owned the property that the Fulton Country Club now occupies. Smith built the two story log home which is now the two story front of the Club. In 1916 a small group of Fulton area businessmen purchased the land and hired a nationally known architect to lay out the course. Once completed, horse drawn "mowers" were reponsible for maintaining the grass. In the early years the Fulton Country Club hosted events such as weddings, receptions, bridge parties, and formal dances. The club also featured grass tennis courts and croquet courts. The women's locker room was built in 1955; until then women had a bench outside with a mirror hanging from a bush. In 1956 the tennis and croquet courts were removed to accomodate the addition of a swimming pool. fccold
